About the Museum |
First opened in 1926, the historic San Diego Museum of Art is the county’s largest art institution. The museum’s nationally renowned permanent collection includes European, American, Asian and contemporary art, most notably Spanish and Italian old masters, South Asian paintings, 19th- and 20th-century American paintings and sculptures, and works by contemporary California artists. In addition, the museum regularly features major exhibitions of art from around the world, as well as a year-round schedule of supporting programs and educational opportunities, providing a rich and diverse experience for more than 500,000 annual visitors. The museum islocated at 1450 El Prado in Balboa Park. Hours and admissions vary, depending on exhibitions. |
